Whats the diffrence, for example i have 4ft x 12 x 18 tank, how many gallons is it?

gallons
imp gallons
US gallons

Are all 3 diffrent?

Thanks.

You only really need to know 2 different ones.

1 UK Gallon = 4.55 litres

1 US Gallon = 3.78 litres

To work out the volume of your tank click 'Aquarium Calculator' at the top of the screen.

:good:

edit: beat me to it, Matty!

lol, i used that and thats why i made the thread, imp gallons <--------- is that uk gallons?

On the calculator it says, imp gallons or US, which one should i go by for my tank?

Most of the whatever per gallon rules use US Gallons if that's what you mean.

I prefer to use good old British (Imperial) Gallons when describing my tank... none of the foreign rubbish!

I use US gallons, simply because on most forums thats what people talk in. I can understand what someone says when they say I have a 55USG tank, I can picture it and its dimensions, but if someone said I have a 55 imperial gallon tank, I would struggle to work out how big it was (I know it will be bigger than 55 USG, but the dimensions would get me). With US gallons they have 'set' tank sizes that are common, I don't think we have them in the UK, so again its easier to imagine the tank.

Yeh I tend to use US gallons too because thats what people tend to use on this forum. Although there isn't a huge difference between imp and us.

I try to stick to Litres - these Americans just have to adjust :)
