Immediate Disease Identification Needed

my *assumed dead* paradise fish has just re-appeared and has a big red spot/ulcer between it's mouth and it's gill

what could this be

sorry, no pics available as light in my hospital tank is broken

i have treated it with melafix for now, what could it be and what could the cure be?

any help much appreciated

Could be a bacterial infection of some sort. Pimafix?

Right need to no size of thank, full fish stock list of how many and which kind, plus water stats in ammonia,nitrite,nitrate, and ph, does the spot have a circling of white around it.

Ulcer Disease



Symptoms:

Fishes presenting with large red open lesions, ulcers or sores on the body have ulcer disease. Other symptoms may also include eroding flesh, reddening at the base of the fins and vent, and the fish may also experience a loss of appetite and darkening of color.



Cause:

Internal bacterial infection caused by Aeromonas and Pseudomonas. This disease is most often seen in fish that have been kept under poor conditions or recently imported.



Treatment:

Check your water conditions to ensure that they are within the optimal ranges for the type of fish you are keeping. If not, perform an immediate water change. Ulcer Disease is highly contagious, therefore the entire tank and all fish, even those not yet showing symptoms, should be treated. Treatment with Kanacyn, Furacyn, or Nitrofura-G are recommended.

would melafix be good for treatment till i get some of the other stuff?

My gourami has ulcer disease, and I started treating with melafix and pimafix. It seemed to slow down the infection, but not stop it.
