Hello, I currentally have a 40 gallon tank with a 75 gallon bio wheel filter and I'm hoping to put in a chichlid. I apalogise for my ignorance but I only know that Cichlids are agressive, like to root plants, and take a good deal of care. I have two tiger barbs in the tank and am hoping that the new Cichlid will not harass them. I would appreciate and suggestions on types of Cichlids to get, Cichlid care, or any other hints I should know before starting. . I was thinking about a Blue Acara because it would not eat my plants. Thanks very much

There are some beautiful dwarf cichlids like the appostos, rams, chequerboards e.t.c. that won't damage your plants and would be fine in your tank, only thing is though that i don't know if the tiger barbs will harrass them. Tiger barbs do need to be kept in numbers so that they don't harass each other too so i would have a think on that, just 2 on their own is not great.

Yeh, i would try and get a few more tiger barbs, atleast 3 more.I've never done it before but i think a blue acara would be fine in that tank.If you buy one don't mistake it for a rivulatus which can grow 9' plus and eat all your fish!

i agree, a few more tiger barbs to make the school complete
and then you could do smaller cichlids like listed above also.
you cant really keep anything bigger with them...you could TRY angelfish but its really not recommended to but its done often enough with success

Thanks, I had 4 tiger barbs but an illness came through and knocked out two of them. I'm not planning to add anything untill I'm absoultally sure that there is nothing lingering but I will get a few more. Anouther question, do cichlids like driftwood?
