Fish Herder
I've been having some deaths in my 30 gallon. I lost 2 of my oldest male guppies about a month and a half back and 3 of my new pepper cories in that same time with one dieing today. All the peppers didn't seem to healthy from the get go
I've been treating with Waterlife Sterazin for body/gill flukes. I did 2 treatments with instructions on the bottle which didn't seem to help. So I contacted the Waterlife people and was given better detailed instructions on how to treat my tank and with how much medication. Well I did a 3rd treatment for the flukes and followed the new instructions by upping the dose until I noticed them not flashing anymore which was pretty late in the course.
Besides the deaths everyone else in the tank seem healthy besides the occasional "flashing". If it wasn't for the recent deaths I would think everything was normal as I know flashing can be normal when fish are searching for food or have an itch.
I am not sure if I should try a 4th dose or wait and see and up my water changes. Maybe the pepper cories I bought were a bad batch? I have 3 other albino cories and they have been fine since the day I got them. The only other deaths I've had is my 2 older male guppies...maybe that could of been due to old age?
I started treating for the body/gill flukes because it was the only disease that fit any of the symptoms my sick/dieing fish were having eg: flashing, resting on the bottom, not eating and heavy breathing. Maybe that could all be how fish go when they die normally though??
Physically I couldn't see anything wrong with the sick dieing fish.
My tank is a 30 gallon which is cycled and been up and running for a little over 3 months now and I do a 25% water change weekly. I know fish can flash due to high nitrAtes but with my tank being cycled and doing a 25% water change weekly I have a hard time believing it would be that. I've also tested the water and the nitrAtes are usually around 5-10.
