I'm New To The Forum - Meet Max

Hi! My name is Michele and I'm new. We recently added a betta fish to our family, which already consists of my husband, almost 7 yro son, 5 yro tabby cat and 2 yro chihuahua. Although my son loves animals - it seems he prefers the furrier kind as he's not taking much interest in our new fish... so he's MY fish now!

I've been glued to the internet and books for the last few weeks - reading as much as I can about these little creatures, as I want to do everything possible to ensure he's a happy, and healthy fish.

Max is a crowntail. He kinda has a burgundy body with ruby-red fins with a splash of blue.

Phaedra & Zafirah, would you believe I got Max from Walmart?? The weekend we decided to get a betta, we were very lucky as our local Walmart seemed to have a new shipment of bettas - several crowntails and veiltails and a lot of females. I was shocked by how many they had.

It was hard to decide - several broke my heart b/c they already looked kinda sickly. Max was one of the healthier looking ones... although I wanted to "save" the sickly ones - but I was fairly inexperienced at the time.

i cant look at walmart bettas...thats how i came home with poor, tailless aladdin who's not so tailless now

it makes me so sad to see no stores (around here) takes care of their bettas
