I'm New To Fish-keeping

hi i am a newbie - and having fun watching my fish ... but i have 2 mollies and one has developed an enormously swollen eye - looks fit to explode .... what can i do?

How big is the tank and how long has it been set up?
What are your water readings for nitrite, nitrate, ammonia and PH?
It sounds as though your Molly has Popeye which can be brought on by poor water quality. It's worth getting your water tested to make sure your levels are all ok.
If you go to your lfs, you should be able to get a suitable medication to treat the popeye.

hi ... tanks 60 litre .. i got it 2-10-07 a VERY surprise gift .. but quickly got interested ... but theres so much to learn ... thanks so much for ur advice/interest - much appreciated - i have bought tonic salts and meds - water readings right now are good - testing daily for a week while using meds ... . fingers crossed thanks again

Wish someone would surprise me with a new tank...
Make sure you remove the carbon from your filter before using meds as the carbon will take out any treatment you add to the tank.
Mollies are pretty hardy so wit medication and TLC, they should be fine. Keeping my finger s crossed!

hi again ... update water tests are still very good one more med to go ... molly's eye is much improved - less swollen each time i look - so thanks again for ur interest/advice
i was told that the 3 times a day i was feeding was too much so now feeding only a relatively small amount once daily .... i am told this is much healthier .... i dont like to think i might be starving them - what do u think??

Good to hear that your fish is improving!
I only feed my fish once a day and I have one day a week where I don't feed them at all. It is personal preference whether you feed once or twice a day but unless you have big fish, then once a day is fine.

update
last meds and tonic salt was yesterday - the "eye" molly is just fine now - back to regular size
so hopefully all is well
