Hey there,

In order to properly determine if she is preggo or not, some more info will help.  Do you know how old she is?  If not, when did you buy her?  When you bought her from the store, were there other males of the same kind in the tank?  How long ago did you notice a change in her appearance?

The gestation period for a platy is about a month, so 28-32 days.  If for any reason the fish is stressed, it is possible she can hold on longer (took my female guppy FOREVER to drop her fry when I first got her).

Keep an eye on her to see if she continues to swell.  If she does, congrats! ^_^
Keep us posted with updates and pics!

Im not sure how old she is, there were other males in the tank and i only bought her 3 days ago so im not sure on her. in my tank u currently have 3 female and 1 male swordtail and i think she was in the same tank as the male i have now.

she seems to be swimming on here own and staying close to the plants and features

I'm not entirely sure if I am right about this, but I believe swordtails can impregnate female platies (unless that is a female swordtail, in which case it is very likely she is pregnant).  Also, she may have gotten pregnant from the fish store.

Since you got her only 3 days ago, her hiding may just be due to the fact she's in a new environment.  Generally, livebearers such as platies and swordtails remain active and happy when pregnant.  It is only until she is very close to labor before she looks for hiding places and isolates herself.

I've noticed you said you were new to fish keeping.  Do you know about tank cycling?  It is very important.  Here is a link to help you out: http://www.myaquariumclub.com/the-nitrogen-cycle-for-beginners-358.html

You are quite correct about that.
