they may try to but i assure you it will not be succesful and you will end up with dead fish, the male builds a nest to attract the female and then she lays her eggs which the male will put in the nest. he will then defend this nest aggressively, violently attacking anything that tries to get near the nest(this includes the female) even if they did hatch fry, the other tank mates would make a meal of them, and the fry need special care to ensure their survival.

betta breeding should not be taken on lightly, and they need a seperate tank for breeding.

males dont tend to make good comunity tank mates.. and males should not be kept with females permenantly as a rule, although some more placid males are ok.

I'm not going to play a hypocrite and tell you not to keep the male and female together because I have done it. I currently have a male in my 29 gallon with 6 females and 4 platies but hes a very very very very calm, laid back male, he doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body, and the girls love him they follow him everywhere and there is absolutly no aggression, but I'm lucky and I watched them incredibly closely for a good week before I felt comfortable with him being in there. But 90% of the time it doesn't work out, and like blue_betta said if they do breed the male will most likely attack anything that comes near the nest. So be extremely careful and if the male is too agressive get him his own little tank and get you female a few more females to be friends with :good:

what size tank do you recomend to get for breeding saimses . the two i have are doing extreamly well they do not fight eachoother

ive spawned a pair in a 10 litre, but normaly a 30 litre is minimum recomended. do your research before breeding!!

look in the frequently asked questions on the top of this forum

if you want to breed fighter fish do you have alot of money room and jars?
youll need them!
the average VT betta (petshop betta) has about 100-300 babies!
they need lots of additonal care (live foods, cultured foods!)

its hard work and you need to do reaserch!

where do i buy live food for bettas can you give me a link to a site?yes i have room but dont bettas need air in water to breath if kepted in jars i always think thats nasty to keep them in jars

betta dont need to have well oxygenated water.. they breath air from the surface. they are so dependant on this that if you prevent them from reaching the surface they will drown. as long as the jars are kept clean they do not suffer being raised in them for a short period.

you can get live food cultures such as microworm on ebay, or if you ask on hee people may give you starter cultures. there is also "betta starter" which is a dry food dovelped for betta fry. im going to try it out on my next spawn, but ive heard mixed reports of it.

And perhaps you could actually research the tank you want to spawn them in before having a go at the ebay seller because you did not research what you were buying beforehand!
