If there is a bright spot in the universe I'm in t
I'm moving at the end of this month to the other side of town. I currently have a ten gallon tank and my friend has a 44 gallon tank. We aren't exactly sure how to go about moving our fish and their tanks. Do we keep all the water or just some of it? How would we store all that water? Where do we put our fish while we are moving them? I hope someone else has had to go through this same experince and could help us out. We aren't moving for another three weeks so any advice would be great, thanks.

well you have to bag the fish up and put them in some sort of styro foam box, it would be best if you could keep the filter media wet, if possible even with an amonia source so that the bacteria doesnt die. the tank you will have to drain all the water out, you dont need to keep all the water, i would say if you could keep 20%-60% of it that would be good, some people put the water in pails with lids, or barrels ect.. as long as its clean.. if you do all this you should just be able to set the tank up with out any mini cycle or nothin!

how long is the drive exactly?

I moved about a year ago and had to move a 46 gal tank. We put as much water in buckets as we could and then drained off the rest. We put all the fish in the buckets and added stress coat. sealed off the buckets and loaded everything and left for the new place. Immediately upon arriving set up the aquarium and started adding the water back in. Added fresh water with some dechlor and some cycle stuff just to make sure. Then added the fish and left the lights off. Not sure if this was exactly the correct way, but all the fish made it and didn't seem none the worse for it. Oh yea, it was about a 30 minute drive. So good luck.
