I agree, the fish looks stunning but unfortunately i dont own or havn't seen one before. Though it does say that no two males look the same, so maybe i have and not noticed lol.

Anyway, the reason i ask, to make a long story short, ive come to own a pair of wild caught Black dorsel Zebra's. Well, the breeder i got them off said they were Black dorsel Zebra's that he had planned to keep himself but had decided on this other pair. But the male dosn't look very much like the profile Ferris gave, but more like THIS ONE IMO. What do you think ??? Pics below ...

Its the first time ive kept wild caught. They seem to have settled in nicely, dont go looking for trouble but can look after themselfs.

Also, the male's been treating the female abit rougth, not too much to cause damage, but i noticed the female has four egg spots on her anal fin. I know females can have one or two but i didn't think they could have four ? can they ? I hope its not male !!

Thanks

Could very well be... see if Ferris can suggest anything.

What im more concerned for is, isit possible for females to have four egg spots you think ???

It's not Flavus and its not a Petrotilapia either. I'm not 100% certain what it is though at the moment but like the big man said "I'll be back"

Ok - found them. Metriaclima sp. "Black dorsal Nkhungu" (was close the 1st time round  )

Difficult to get good pics, link below is a German site that has about the best pics i can find on a quick search. Cichlid-forum refers to them but with no pic. The clincher was the pics and info on one of my Ad Konings CD's was a 100% match. :good:

Cheers Ferris. So if they're a pair of Metriaclima sp. "Black dorsal Nkhungu", could they be refered to as "Black Dorsel Zebra's" ?

Also, is it possible for a female to have four egg spots ?

Thanks again.

Yep - Most fish in the Metricalima genus used to be Pseudotropheus. The scientists just got bored and re-hashed everything (again  ).

4 egg spots is certainly possible for a female - egg spots are never a completely accurate way of sexing Mbuna - just a good guess. :good:

Great !!

I knew females could have 1 or 2 egg spots but didnt think they could have four.

Thanks again Ferris. :good:
