I have a 37G with 2 JD's that I have not had very long. I ended up starting completely over after my old JD, Convict and rainbow died from the same thing that is happening now once again. The fish are getting a white film over the eyes and body it happens so fastly and im not sure what to do about this issue. after this happened the first time i cleaned out my tank gravel and all decor. i refilled and tested. all was fine. i added 2 JD's and two texas. within maybe a month the tesxas had died from the white film and now the Jd's are starting to get it. im really starting to get discourage from this and have not had a lot of trouble up to this point if there is any information and help it would be greatly appreciated. im going to try and take some pics and upload to show just exactly what im talking about.

I am not sure what the disease is, but I can tell you some things that may be inducing disease. You tank is way to small for the fish you are keeping in it. JDs get to be 10+ inches, and Texas cichlids get to be 12+ inches. It seems to me that whatever the disease is, it is probably stress induced.

What are your water parameters? Temp? How did you cycle it? If you test your water, what test kit are you using? What have you added to the tank recently? How many fish and what type are in the tank now?

Did you use any medications?

I agree with Dieses ... the tank is much, much too small for those fish, even as young ones. It sounds like some sort of infection that would need medication to sort out. Also, large water changes often are what I always recommend as it helps.

Too big fish, too little tank. The largest you can go with common American cichlids would be a convict or firemouth. Nothing that exceeds 6 inches.
