Hi, I posted a while back w/ questions abuot my prego dalmation molly. Well, she didn't make it... But I recently bought a yellow molly, & just yesterday another :) Anyways, I came home this morning & came in to see how my new fish were doing, & I saw the older yellow down, looking unhealthy, by the bubble thing. Then I saw a baby fish! Best Easter present ever ;) I found 4 fry in all, they are now w/ their mummy in a breeder net. I don't think shes going to make it though... It looks like she has one stuck coming out or something...

Ok now on to the questions, hehe. Do I need to do anything special for them besides the feedings of crushed flakes?

Is it ok to give meds right now? I had a gourami die the other day, it looked like its 'skin' was peeling away, revealing gray/gold 'skin'. Later on that day I saw this tiny white worm looking thing, assuming that was the reason for my gourami's death, I purchased some Quick Cure. This 'worm', was white & abuot the size of the fry I have now, kinda squirming... What would that be? ewe I hate worms...

Thanks for any help & Happy Easter!

congrats on the fry! :D

i've never dealt with mollies before so I'm not entirely sure about your questions, just wanted to congratulate you

If you cant get baby brine shrimp, crush the flakes very finely and use a wet toothpick to put the crushed food to feed them.

Giving meds is ok as well, just make sure not to overdose.

I breed guppies but I figure they are the same. I dont know much either but Congrats! About the white thingy you saw squirming around; that was a worm. :(

i heard about those white worms. theyre white worms that hide in decorations and CAN be harmful. i guess theyre like tapeworms? they come out at night

ewe ewe ewe worms :( I thought I saw one more on a patch of algae, but I'm not sure. It was white & looked similar, so I wiped whatever it was out. Could that be the cause of the peeling of skin of my fish? Mummy fish is still alive, but shes just laying in the net. The only way I can tell that she's alive is that she is breathing. It sorta looks like the same thing as my gourami that died, but I can't tell for sure.

Should I flush her? I have a 1 gallon bowl, should I put her in there w/ quick cure?

Hi abe and welcome to fish parenthood! :D

I am assuming that you haven't had baby fish before so I thought I could give some pointers. I have been breeding guppies for awhile now and just started with platies and mollies. Flake food is ok for your molly fry but as the saying goes, variety is the spice of life. The best food for fry is live baby brine shrimp which come in packets of eggs that can be hatched and fed to the baby fish. (Brine shrimp are the same thing as sea monkeys) Another good food (at least I have found it good) is blood worms and tubiflex worms. You can find both freeze dried. The tubiflex worms come in little cubes that can be smushed onto the side of the tank so that the fish can pick at it. These live foods will help the babies grow faster as they contain more protein than flake food.

Oh, and another good suggestion is to do more water changes on any tank that has fry in it. Babies require frequent feedings (as anyone who has been woken up at all hours of the night by a screaming baby would know), in the fish tank this leads to a lot of food that sits on the bottom. Water changes are needed to get rid of the food as it starts to rot before it can ruin the water conditions which can hurt or kill the babies.
