Hi all.
I've recently noticed some problems with two of my female guppies. On the one i am not sure whether its velvet or just the start of body fungus or possibly white spot.
And the other is rapidly breathing and its gills appear swollen.
None of the other fish seem affected so far.

I've described the symptoms below.

Thanks for your time
-John

Tank size: 60L
pH: 7.5
ammonia: possibly around 0.3
nitrite: 0
nitrate: around 10
kH: ?
gH: ?
tank temp: 25 degrees

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):

Fish one:
The fish is active and feeds normally, When resting though the fish shimmies, and has a very fine white dust looking covering over the rear half of its body, i don't think the spots are big enough to be white spot, but i am no expert. There is no excess gill movement or gasping and no lethargy as of yet.

Fish two:
The fish is active and feeds normally but has constant rapid gill movement and they appear swollen. it doesn't appear to be gasping at the surface though.

Velvet disease is a protozoan disease that is characterized by a white sheen or shine to the body with various white spots scattered inbetween. This appears to be what your guy has. Any anti-parasitinc treatment should be effective. Possibly treating with Malachite Green medications will work for this. The other fish may be suffering from a form of velvet or other protozoanthat has attacked the gills? Or he may be stressed from the levels of ammonia that you have. What does everyone else think on that?

A white dusting like talc on a fish is velvet, worse than whitepsot and harder to get rid of.
Increase temp to 30, also increase aeration in the tank as the high temp and meds reduce 02 in the water.
Read instructions carefully that you can use the full dose of med with the fish you keep.
Good luck.
Don't forget to temove black carbon if you use it.

Thanks for the help guys. i'll grab some Interpet Number 7 - Anti Slime/Velvet on monday. If there is a better med for it, please let me know :)

-John

Interpet parasite meds are not that bad so go with that.
Good luck.
Can you get the med tomorrow as the gills are already effected, parasites kill fast.

Velvet nasty like any parasite, you need to act fast, so good luck.

A another week once the dusting has gonne.
Good luck.

Its been 2 days now with no improvement and today i noticed her tail fin is starting to rot and disintegrate. will velvet do this or could it be something else?

Heres a pic, its not very good and doesn't show all the dusting but you can see a few spots on the back fin and the damage on its tail
