Ok so......

yesterday my 2 baby oscars were breathing quite fast as were my 2 balas.
The oscars were also hanging near the surface alot. And just looked generally ill.
So i added meth Blue to the tank, woke up this morning and they are looking great but.......

My cat fish is swollen and my plec is pooing the white stringy stuff for fun.
There was a courgette in there last night which they gobbled up along with some shelled peas which i add every now and then.

Now im starting to think its an internal problem as my gold severum has a slightly red tinge to the base of his caudal fin and his anal fin. Only slight and hes had this for ages, always been highly active and eating well. ive always assumed its his natural colours asa he is red on his fins.
Im just worried that its all a case of septicaemia!

If it is i cant treat anything till the meth blue cycles out.

Any ideas?

sorry tank details.

300L RIO

Nitrite 0
nitrate about 40 asusual for my water
PH 7.6
Amonia 0
Temperature 26

Is there enough aeration in the tank, though methylene blue is an airnator.
Sounds bacterial with the fins as then can do long stringy white poo with bacterial infections.
I would start medicating the sick fish with a bacterial med.
But don't like the sound of the other fish being at the top of he tank.
Are they darting around, and flicking and rubbing againt objects.
Check the gill area to see if there red and inflamed, or pale with excess mucas on them.
