If You're Not Sposed To Turn Your Filter Off What Do You Do In A P

On one of alien anna's don'ts it said don't turn off your filter because the bacteria will start to die. So if you have a power cut say like we did the other evening for around 6 hrs what can you do other than get a generator?

take the lid off the filter, as that would alow the surface of the water in the filter to absorb some oxygen and may let the bacteria last longer...
