as above should i even bother. because the reactor looks kind of #### tbh

Excel is a synthetic product, which means whilst useful IMO it cant be as good as CO2, plants are designed to use CO2 not excel. So if you are able then I would always chose CO2 over excel (excel also affects some plants so its not possible to use it in some tanks). However, I have heard of people who only use excel with NO CO2 and they have achieve great results. I guess you could use both and maximise your chances of success

I used to use just Excel and Flourish and my plants prospered.
However, if you want your tank to look like some of the tanks on here, I'd use co2.

You could use an out of tank reactor so you wouldn't even see it.

I would recemend adding CO2 AND Excel...

I done that and ended up with dead fishies!! Excel melts Vallis within 24hrs and seems not to be friendly with at least Amano shrimps....

I don't think I would use both, but my Vallis (giant and spiral) grew well with Excel.
And that was at twice the recommended dose.

I found it was Anachris (spelling ?) it melted.
This was in a 240 ltr Juwel with an external XP2 and a Vecton 15UV, with a pH of 7 and nitrates about 10-20

My plants flourish as a result and my fish are active and very much alive...

Plus... The Excel bottle actually says that you can use it in conjunction with CO2 injection or on its own... Matters how many plants you have, growth rate, etc...

I inject CO2 and use excel, my plants flourish and my fish seem OK, I use an airstone at night.

My CO2 is about 20-25ppm and the lights are on for 9 hours and I aireate for 8 hours (with the CO2 still on), otherwise the 02 levels drop too much.

well i've answered my own question i unplug my reactor the other day and almost over night the my hair algee had come back, plugged it back together and it died down again

Excel killing vallis...that seems a bit random to me, I use Excel and my vallis grew like mad, to the extent that I took it all out as it was a nightmare to control even with 1wpg!

When reading my post 9 posts up there ^, please ignore it! After doing more research, I have to conclude I'm totally wrong. :byebye:
