na about 20 ppm
ph is 8

do people still use the dechlorinator on well water, or is it a waste of money?
I always have used it faithfully, but my husband brought it up when I was buying a new bottle last night.

We're on well water too, and I stopped using decholinator about a year ago. Its been fine since. This being said me and family know that no chlorine, and other yucky stuff was added, the only thing that water has in it is water and shulphar(which hasn't had any ill effects on the fish)
I'd still see if you could call the company that put in your well, or find somewhere to have it tested, just to make sure they didn't put anything weird in it.

well the well has been in place for about 20years and just got a new pump about a week ago...prior to that we have several springs that pop up around the farm, one under the house and we have a pump down in that for water for the stock outside.

I think I will take a water sample in to our local county extension office, they should be able to test it for me.

thanks:)

there is no need to use a basic dechlorinator for well water because it won't have chlorine in it. It may contain heavy metals in which case a good water conditioner/ dechlorinator will help remove the heavy metals. You can also run the water through a carbon filter to remove the heavy metals.

The well water comes from pockets of water deep underground which is naturally filtered from vast amounts of rock and its minerals, so doesnt need to be treated with chlorine so there probably isnt any chlorine in that water
