Identifying My Fish...

I bought 4 tetras a couple of weeks ago... they were labelled diamond tetras but when I googled them they looked nothing like diamond tetras.

My tetras look just like neon tetras but instead of the neon stripe running through their whole body its just on their head and in the shop they did look different from the neon tetras. They also have red tails like neons.

I tried to post a photo but cant work out how to on here.

Just looks like a neon adjusting to me give them a few more days to colour up.

They were labelled as different to neons and the guy at my lfs said they were called something else. Also they were the same colour in the pet shop and looked different to the neons... maybe they're mutent neons and my lfs just wanted to palm them off so called them something else. but def not normal neons. I know it looks like they have a bit of a stripe in the pic.. in person only their head is blue, the whole body is silver.

I was talking to the owner of one shop a few weeks ago and he told me about a new strain of neon tetra called diamond neon tetras. They have a shiny patch on the back, from the eyes to the dorsal fin and have been selectively bred from normal neons. Is this what you have?

Yes probably.. I guess that's where the label diamond tetra came from. Thanks for that... they don't look the same as neons and it was really bugging me!!

yup diamond head neons, a man made colour morph of the std neon.
due to the selective breeding process they are not as hardy as the std neons

They're all downstairs...3 in the front room and 4 in the back room

I still want more....it's like an addiction I tell ya!

Thanks My life seems to revolve around cleaning fish tanks though, but I love the sense of satisfaction once you've got them all cleaned out. Just time to sit and enjoy before you have to start all over again the next day
