hmmm

I just recieved this from a forum member, as a female. Now I am not doubting him but reading on people who have mistaken some fish, and the fact she just had a major fight with my male, and is chasing the females and flaring at them, like my male does lol

Her long fins under her chin (not sure of proper term) are a lot longer than my other females too.

bear with me please... I am naive when it comes to breeds other than veiltails!

not sure how to post pics, so heres the link to the page where the seller posted piccies.

she looks female but you should never mix the 2 sexes for this very reason, you should seperate straight away

Hi.

Thanks for that. They are seperated now. I seperated them right away as soon as it happened. I thought one male was fine in with my females, but i will move him now.

:good:

hi, just for a further bit of clarification.

in the last pic of your new girl, you can see her egg spot showing, so definitely looks like a girl.

if she is a particularly fiesty female she may have been chasing off the other girls as she felt they were competition for the males attention. my girls are still squabbling lots because they can see the male in the other half of the tank(divided off). he will be coming out soon (when the babies are free swimming) and hopefully things will quiet down a bit.

I've heard that juvenile male can show a false egg spot in order to appear as females in order to avoid detection by mature males, but if he/she is falring and fight ing with the male then chasing females, I would definitely say it's female because a juvenile male would just be laying low to avoid detection by the mature male.

Hi evryone i was the person that sold this fish to barmy and thank god you agree she is female, you started to get me worried about it lol

I thought for a minute i sold a male as a female but i was 99%sure she is female and youve agreed!!

just to re-illterate the egg spot thing is not a sure fire way to tell, my fully grown male VT still has his, and there's no mistaking him for a girl ;)
