I've had this booger for a while. i have 2 other cichilds much much bigger. but everything about them looks just like this pink guy. just. she's smaller.
and also she keeps laying eggs...digging out a little spot for them. but i don't have a male.
i'm hoping to get one for her. i jsut need to know what kind of cichlid she is..and how could i tell when i get one for her if its male or female?

That is a female pink convict. If you didnt know convicts are one of the meanist fish and can beat up fish 3 times there size. They also breed like rabbits. And they also come in the original black convict and the pink is the albino version. The females have a orange blotch on them and the best way to tell is the female has rounded finns.I can awnser any other questions if asked.

I agree accept for when you say "meanist fish". They are not mean, they are protective. In a normal community setting a single fish can be one of the more docile cichlid species. This makes them a welcome addition to many people's NW cichlid tanks. A breeding pair becomes protective once they have a clutch of eggs. This is just biology telling them to keep everything else living away from their eggs so that the next generation will survive. Yes, they do breed and breed and breed so I would say a breeding pair is best left alone in a tank by themselves to stop any other stock being abused, but again, they are only being protective, not mean.

The females I had were lovely, it was when a male and a female paired off they got nasty ;)

I wouldn't say they were suitable for a community though.

a community as in a NW cichlid tank with more than one NW cichlid
