I just noticed something new in my tank, I is in a hole in one of my live rocks next to my Watchman Gobie. I don’t know if it is dangerous or not. It is about the size of a matchstick, it is tan to light brown, it has spike like things along the back and looks to have claws or some kind of pinching things (looks like the head of a slug). I added live rock on the 17th of August and I have not heard any ticking during the night but then again I have had my AC on.

I tried to add the image but am having problems not sure how to do it when i click images it give a link?

You need to use an image hosting site like photobucket.com to host the images. The pictures you host there then have the links that you post here in the forum :good:

It kind of looks like a crab to me, It is hard to get a full shot of him because he is in a hole in the rock. I hope the photo works. I signed up to photobucket thanks.

Thanks for the advice

Definitely a crab of some kind... Not sure what type though. Does it have hairy legs?

Cant tell looks like it has either hair or some kind of spiny things on it, I am trying to lure it out with prepared clams in a glass next to the hole. I hope it traps itself soon, want to QT it and photo it for ID. Thanks for the help Ski

Google search "teddy bear crab" and "gorilla crab". They were the first things that came to mind for me.

I was at the LFS and I saw a crab that looked like a turantula. In fact I had to do a double take, because I thought it was a spider underwater. They just called it a spider crab. I am going there soon and will ask if they know the name of it. It REALLY looks like it.

They're usually called spider crabs, but are not reef safe

Thanks for all your help so far, I got impatient and shed a little light into the rock while getting my red flashlight ready and scared the little guy back into his rock, so I guess I have to wait for his photos. Once again thank you all for your help
I will post photos once it comes out

I would guess its a gorilla crab or teddybear crab. Both are not desirable sue to their aggressive tendancies towards fish.
