hi my female platty had 32 babies yesterday :D and i found five of them inside my internal filter i have them in a breeder net at the moment i want to let the free in my small tank which is heated and was wondering if anyone has any ideas how i can prevent the going up the filter would having just an airstone be enough margaret

That was hard to read, :/ but I got thorugh it. :D

What type of filter do you have?

If it's a normal power filter, then you could probably get some nylon netting and rubberband it to the intake tube to keep them from getting them sucked in.

Is the filter in a fry rearing tank or in a normal tank?

Internal filters aren't good with fry because the fry end up being curious ( i.e. stupid) and wander into the filter. A HOB filter works much better. I have never had any fry get sucked up into any of my power filters. Filters are definately a necessity in fry tanks. Fry are much more sensitive to water conditions than adults are and can becomed stressed and die much easier.

Of course, you could just get a sponge filter for biological filtration and do daily water changes. That'll keep currents down and there's no chance of killing the fry.

Congratso n the birth of your Paties, 32! wow thats is a good batch. I bet your proud of the mum!
