with a tank that small you are very restricted in what fish you can add, id say just put one male betta in there

When you say set up do you mean cycled? If so how did you cycle it?

Hello, thats not what I asked

I asked how you cycled it?

What are your water stats? Because your idea of fine probably different to my idea of fine

Ammonia? Nitrite? Nitrate? Temp?

Have you got a filter? And again how did you cycle the tank? Did you just leave it for 5 weeks?

I asked how you cycled it?
i did a fishless cycle i added ammonia (pure) to raise it to the appropraite ppm, then after around 4 weeks the tank was able to handle the ammonia nitrites and i lowered the nitrates before adding the current fish. the tank is now around 2 months old

Yes i have a fluval 1 plus which is the right amount, and my temp is set at 24 Celius
The ammonia hasnt been anything over 0pmm neither has the nitrite, since the fishless cycle.

Ok well in all honesty for a betta, id say raise the temp by 2c to 26c, they prefer it slightly warmer

With regards to stocking you really are limited, I would say get some really nice plants, plant it up nicely and just have one male betta in there by himself

A tank that small will also require regular water changes too :good:

What fish have you in there already? How often are you doing water changes?

Guppies (male) and tetras, they will be moved out of the tank into a 100 litre tank after it has been cycled, so it will be empty for the betta
once a week as it stands 20% seems to be just fine, the fish look great and the water is always treated before being added to the tank, it always looks crystal clear

Hmmmm well its a good thing you are moving the tetras as they prefer alot of swimming space, and are schoalers(spelling) so require a nice sized group of them and a nice big tank

I would honestly say twice a week of 20% would be better for the fish you have in there at the moment

My male betta is in a 7gallon by himself and he still gets 2 water changes per week of 25%

It helps dilute any background bacteria, thus lowering the risk of any fish getting ill

When you move a betta into the tank, I would advise doing 2 water changes of atleast 20% per week

What do you plan to feed him?

Tetramin tropical flakes, Daphnia and bloodworms

Ok flakes wont be enough

Have a look online and try to get some Betta pellets

Also we talking about frozen, live or freezedried bloodworm and daphnia?

Freezedried

No no no no no, not a good idea, this often leads to bloating in a betta and really isnt a good idea

Either get live, or frozen. How often are you planning to feed the bloodworm and daphnia?

Well its better that you get the correct info now, rather than not and then later down the line end up with a sick fish

Temp 26c is a good optimum temp for them

Betta pellets, mushed up cooked peas, frozen or live bloodworm or daphnia, shrimp, prawn, mussel, cockels, octopus, they love it

good luck :good:
