Ideas For My 3ft Tank

im in a quandry. i like tetras and everything but i feel like, as a fish keeper, that i have "grown out" of the tetras.im thinking of turning my 3ft into a cichlid tank. my idea is 3 red jewel cichlids, 3 electric blues and 3 electric yellows.

so basically its tetras or cichlids, what do you think?

if you go the cichlid route, don't mix africans with new world, especially your suggested mix.
IMHO & IME the juwel cichlids are the most aggressive small cichlid out there.
My pair even killed a male auratus

you say you have grown out of tetras but have you tried some of the more nasty ones
like exodon paradoxus bucktoothed tetra? they are most definatly not a comunity fish and have bags of
personality.

Choose carefully!!! Some Africans are very aggressive and need BIG tanks.

i havent thought about other tetras more because i think both me and my hubby secretly want a cichlid tank.

i didnt know that about the jewels so i might just stick with the electrics.

most cichlids will need a 4 foot tank, some mbuna will be ok in a 3 foot tank just watch out for the melanochromis species they are vicious
