Ideas For 15G Tank

I have an old 15g tank which is currently home to my 'oap' fish. 4 cories, 1 gouramie, 1 harlequin and 1 tetra. All little things and all well over 5 years old. They've been in the tank for a long time, some moved from a tank that was shut down a few years ago. It's a very mature filter and the tank is planted with a gravel and sand substrate mix so not ideal for all fish. I have never had sickness in this tank (some of you may have noticed I currently have issues in my largest tank, I am very careful to avoid cross-contamination) and it is filtered by it's original internal jewel filter, which I cleaned and checked recently so it's working in excellent condition. Am thinking of smaller fish as I already keep larger fish in the larger tanks and prefer to offer as much swimming room as pos, but the current residents don't move much except for food. Maybe a little colour?

For colour you could go original with a Betta?

I've got a nice setup in a 14 gal at the minute. If you see my signature, could give you ideas. The pair of Honey Gourami's compliment the tank greatly. The Tetra's form into a nice group of fish. The Pleco is the hidden gem of the tank & the Shrimp & Danio's add a little bit of character. Im really impressed with it, just something you could use as a guideline. Common fish, but together form a great little setup.

white cloud minnows or danios for swimming. or golden/platinum tetras for color looks like they are covered in tin foil. or a different tetra for a shoal of them. or maybe a livebearer

Lol, am avoiding livebearers on the whole as they have a nasty tendency to reproduce faster than rabbits. I keep endlers in a larger tank and the J.D's keep their numbers in check. Before adding the J.D's they multiplied exponentially until it begand to look like a sardine tin! Sold a bunch and now all seems well so, no livebearers.
Not sure a betta is a brilliant idea with a gourami although they are beautiful (I used to breed the HM's and CT's).
I'm curious to the filtration on your tank James. If I thought of having that many I would probably need an extra filter on the tank? Love the idea of a shoal of tetras in there, the danios might be too fast for the older residents to cope with. Will look up some of those tetras (know about some but not all) and that should please the currently single tetra in the tank too.

Nope not at all, Its a Biorb Life. Using the original filtration, not change the 'service kit' for about 8 months now. Few extra ceramics in the cartridge nothing else. Manages fine, change about 25% every week. Its 10 months running now, not lost a fish for about 3.

Its amazing how much it can handle considering its not really amazing filtration.

Good stuff. Mine is the origninal Jewel internal and it works fine but has been known to clog (has been in use for 6-7 years). I haven't moved the tank in all that time and am mildly worried that when I eventually move house the tank will have stuck to the unit beneath it (not an actual stand but a chest of drawers). It was the first tank I ever bought. The harlequin was one of the first fish I ever bought too so I feel kinda sorry for it, having lost his original harlequin mates over the years. Lost two earlier this year (just died, I assume of natural causes as tank was fine as were all tankmates). Be nice to have the tank looking fresh again.
