I was wondering if you lot had any ideas or inspiration on what I could do with a new tank I'm hopefully getting at the end of the week?

It's 30" x 12" x 15" (no idea what the capacity is in UK gallons if anyone knows where I can work it out).

It's going to be play sand and plants all the way, but I was wondering whether it might be big enough to have a go at breeding something? I dunno, just toying with the idea. I think it's prolly too small to have a go at breeding bristlenoses, not that I have a clue how to go about breeding them, but it was something that popped in my head. What about cories? Hmmm.

I've got all the time in the world though, not in a rush to get it filled. Just would love some inspiration :D

D'uhh @ me, didn't think of the need for yet another tank for breeding purposes, so I can write that off. Hmmm Lisa did have a good idea though - maybe it's big enough for me to have one of the small plecs I can't have in with my others (my main tank has panaques in so I haven't wanted to add omnivorous/carnivorous plecs).

think thats approx 17 gals. according to them little booklets you get in with fish stuff

wait a mo width x depth x length x 0.0035 = vol in galls

Thanks Liz :good: On a tank capacity calculator it says 23.3 US gallons, or 19.4 UK, but once you take into account sand and what have you, I think you're spot on.

in a tank that size....

i would go for some small catfish and aquidens curviceps - a truly lovely dwarf cichlid... and maybe some livebarers as dither fish.

Have you considered breeding Corydoras catfish, thre are loads to choose from and won't upset your plants

yeah and if you plant the tank well and add lots of decor, then you will be able to do this and keep a few other fish

Thanks you two - yes I have, but I thought I'd need another extra tank, which isn't really possible. I only have room for the three tanks - my Rio 300 whih has my panaques/ancistrus and an angel/tetras/etc, my son's tank (60L) which has platies and a teeny ancistrus in and this new one that's coming.

Jamie - that is serious inspiration, thanks!

as you may know i tend to work out stocking by surface area, this is what mine going to stocked with when my sub trops go into a 4ft...

5 danio roseus
5 kuhli loaches(only count at 2" because they put little on bio-load and are thin)
2 rams
1 bristle nose plec

that what mines going to be like.

imho you 30" of fully grown fish to have in there.
