So I'll soon be converting my two 10g tanks to one 29 and would like to go all real plants on this one.

I have some argonite sand sitting around, would that work well for plants or should I layer something under the sand?

In one of my 10g I have had moderate success with gravel and root tabs, but would like to step it up for the 29 gallon.

If this info is in the stickies could someone point me in the right direction.

having a nutrient rich substrate helps, i would reccomend having a layer of JBL Aqubasis+ and cap it with the sand.

How is eco-complete? Has anyone used this and is it worth the price?

eco complete is a "stand alone" substrate (doesnt need capping) which is why it is dearer, but it is still a better alternative. If you are considering paying more then also take a look at ADA Aquasoil.

I went with the eco complete, I got two 20lb bags for my 29 gallon, if that is not enough i'll mix some of the argonite in.

I looked into ADA also but read(in the bohemoth tank thread) is clouds up a little more and decomposes more.

I'll have to add a journal once the eco-complete comes in.

Thanks for all the help

Would you mind posting some pics when you;ve got it set up? I'm planning a substrate change in a month or so and have yet to make my mind up.

will do, it'll be a while before it's fully planted but I'm assuming you wanted to see how the eco-complete looks

the eco-complete is supposed to come in today, so be looking for a new planted journal :)
