Its something that is hardly ever discussed, in fact, I have never seen a thread on it; temperature.

I would predict that temperature is important. I think this because we know that certain proteins which make up cells disassociate above certain temperatures. In addition, many internal cellular functions can be affected by temperature, for example, enzymes at high temperatures become denatured and stop functioning correctly.

Yet, what is the optimum temperature at which plants should thrive?

Is it completely subjective to the plants you are keeping?
I currently have rotala rotundifolia growing in a unheated holding tank and is growing perfectly well, which makes you think, is it that critical?
I know many of my LFS hold their planted tanks unheated, but is this due to their poor lighting so as to just keep the plants alive with less algae. Which leads to the question does temperature affect algae?

What temperature do you keep your tank at…?

Chris

Well I’ll have to say my plants don't really get a say when it comes to temperature. It's my fish who decide if it's too hot or cold! But to answer your question, about 79-80f.

Good point, but I think it has something to do with the plants you keep, as if you look at websites about plants it usually tells you about the temperature they need, regardless I keep my tank anywhere between 23-28*C, 28 being my fry tank and about 25 in my community tank, I suppose if you have the temperature higher there will be less oxygen in the tank therefore it would be better for the plants, but just don't make it to hot.
