Ideal pH and softness

I am days from getting my paws on a pair or two of cockatoo dwarf cichlids, and I was wondering if anyone knew the ideal range of pH and softness. I know that they are more tolerant of high pH and hardness than other dwarfs, but how much? Any help would be great!

Thanks! That helped with part of my question! My tap water around here is naturally hard and high in pH, so I have to do a little softening first.
