Hi,

I have 2 fancy tail male guppies in a 5 gallon hex with one small African dwarf frog. They all get along quite well--no fighting, nipping, etc. They (the fish and the frog) eat together (different foods) and sometimes even sleep together.

What is the ideal food for guppies? I've read several different things. Some info says just regular tropical fish flakes or pellets, and other info says a vegetable based flake or pellet. I know that they are classified as omnivores.

I've noticed that they seem to like to "hoover" the bottom of the tank and also like to hoover the surface of the little cave. Are they looking for algae? I don't have any visible algae, nor do I have much (if any) left over food at the bottom of the tank as I am super anal about using a turkey baster to suck up left over food. Should I buy some algae tabs for them? Currently I'm feeding them from a free sample of Hikari Tropical Micro Pellets which they love. This is a meat based pellet.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Trina

Well your not have a problem feeding your guppies soon as when the frog is larger he'll of eaten them.....

How ever the very best food is live Brine shrimp then brine shrimp flake, and they love plant material in their diet as well, so pea's and blanced lettice is good.

Thanks for your reply.

The frog is fully grown. He is an African dwarf frog, not an African clawed frog. ADF's are gentle little creature with no teeth and no claws.

cucumber, banana, boiled carrot is also a good natural way of supplimenting but in small control amounts and not left in the tank too long :good:

sorry was thinking of the larger frog, but I've still heard of dwarfs biting the tails off guppies
