Hi, only joined today so sure question been asked before, if so just point me in the right direction.

Moving over from Goldfish to Tropical, got a 180litre tank. Mainly real plants. Thanks Santa.

Looking at some listings or recommendations of good peaceful community settups, listed in the order they should be added.

Thanks for all suggestions

Edited: Adding the word "peaceful"

I consider the best way to choose fish is to go into your local fish store (lfs) and look at all the fish you like. Write down the common names (and scientific if you can get it) as well as adult size temperament and any other info you can find. Then come home get on the web and start researching. Look up each fish and see if the info is the same as what the lfs supplied (often it is not) Compare things like temperature range, PH, and what level they like to swim at to see what would go well together

you could go for swordtails, maybe a gourami, a school of tetra, a rubbernose or bristlenose pleco, a school of ottocinclinus, take a look at the fish index from this forum for some more ideas.

There is a rule for beginners known as the 1 inch of adult fish per US gallon of water. This is a pretty simple rule but it is not sufficient to properly stock a tank. You need to consider where the fish like to swim. If you get a lot of top swimmers and no bottom dwellers you will have an unbalanced tank leading to stressed fish and perhaps aggression.

I hope this has been helpful I know I've rambled a bit.

Not rambling, useful info. I have been down my lfs trawling through what they have and the notes relating to them. I have various ideas of what I would like, nice peaceful shoal fish, won't grow too much, quite sturdy (now I'm rambling).

I like the looks of cardinal tetras, tiger barbs, zebra danios silver hatchfish. The staff there are helpful, but I like getting the thoughts from the people who enjoy and have experience in the hobby.

Example from above is hadn't realised or thought about top swimmers and bottom dwellers you mentioned.

More recommendations from experienced hobbiesests, keepers, tankies (whats the right word? fish keepers shounds too formal), can only give a clearer idea of the possibilities available.

Right enough of my ramblings. I'm always happy to hear other peoples though (that is why log on no?)
Cheers
