Id These Fish?

last one looks like some sort of pseuodotropheus elongatus but i could be wrong

pretty sure the fish in number four is what is know as a pseudotropheus sp zebra magpie

hope that helped

the fish in the first picture (top left of the image is a pseudotropheus cobalt blue zebra, pretty sure

thanks guys, any more opinions out there? i'm especially interested in #2 as i've not seen anything similar before.

when i was foolish i bought these 10 for £20 and i now know why they were cheap as nobody knows what they are

it likely they are hybrids in this case mate ... cheap cichlids often means they are hybridised :/ its a bit lame but generaly african mbunas should be more expensive than that not sure what number 2 is mate

The third one looks like the shape of my young Mbamba, but its very hard to tell really because of the age / lack of colouring

Agreed, they are cheap as hell nowadays because nobody wants them. (so the shops tell me)

Yeah I heard that as well..........but only from the shops that don't stock them.

As for Id the second one down is tricky to see body shape wise but could be a young Labidochromis Perlmutt, the last one looks like it could be a Cynotilapia Afra "red top".

im not saying that its definate but alot of shops lump of hybrids for cheap, some do good deals aswel i suppose

but mbuna are always generaly mixed and hybridisation is very common, so im always warey of it

Hi Jonno.

#1 id say probably is a young johanni
#2 isnt a mbuna its a female aulonocara. Note the more pointed mouth and larger eyes. The black spots are just bad colouration from bad breeding stocks, probably from Singapore
#3 definatly mbuna, pearlmutt?
#4 possibly a O.B estherae, difficult to tell from the picture
#5 looks like a yellow lab, rusty cross or a yellow lab with bad colouration
#6 id say thats a pseudotropheus zebra

Tanks in aquatics and pets shop labelled up as 'mixed mbuna/malawi/cichlid' are usually fish that they have adopted and cant id. its very naughty to sell a fish under a name when you dont actually know its that fish. Trust me i work in one.
And yes, fish in these tanks can be hybrids because generally they come from peoples mixed mbuna/malawi aquariums.
hope that helps
Char

Well.... Char la just said everything I was going to say. :X lol

But I definitely agree on #2, not an mbuna, female peacock of some type.
#6 also agreed, I'd say red top zebra. Could be an acei but most likely a zebra
