Was in my LFS today, and i'd seen these fish a couple of times but they were never marked on the tank... and of course the only knowlegable owner was busy both times.

Anyhoo... they were in the same tanks as the gouramis, around the same size as the dwarf gouramis, length wise and had very similar colouring. (red and blue pattern.. redder towards the tips)

This is the best drawing i could come up with

unknownfish.gif

...It did have a head too :shifty:

Both the dorsal and anal fin were pointed and were quite long, similarly with the caudal fin, it was pointed at both the top and bottom.

Not a great description, but if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

They aren't gouramis, but they are a member of the labyrinth fish family. They are more closely related to bettas.

However, Paridisefish can be VERY aggressive, and ace actually cold/temperate water fishes.

Anytime, emo. Yes, bunjii is right. paradise gouramis can be very agressive, and yet the easiest fish to keep. If you happen to buy them, I would keep them in colder water. Books are a surefire way to research them, I think they've been around since the start of the aquarium hobby!
Beautiful fish, though! :)

The easiest Fish to Keep,

Paradise Fish were the 1st Fish to be Kept in 1 Gallon Bowls By the Victorians.

They Do well in Tanks or Bowls, and Get Along with bettas Sometimes.

From Experience they HATE Fast Moving Fish Like Danios and Will Hunt them down and kill them.

I have an adult one of those in my 10 gallon with 2 swordtails.
When I first added the fish, the paradise chased the others around but now it is the swordtails that harras the paradise fish-they even took a gouge out of his stomach!

i have a presumably male and female pair in my 46 gallon and they only bother eachother....very gorgeous when they are trying to show off for eachother - my male looks just like the one in the picture and my female, although duller in color has a very bright blue she turns when she wants attention....the male's red stripes really come out when he is showing off
