some of this is cross posted in the general forum, but Im hoping to get an ID on excatly what I have. I was sort of gearing up for an African ciclid tank, but wasn't really ready for fish. This afternoon, I had 18 fish given to me after a tank disaster...

ID help please?

Yelow labs I think?

I've come up with 2 or 3 ids for these... theres a yellow and blue variety... 2 of each.. also 4 of the yellow with the horizontal stripe ...

also 4 of these... blue with a yellow fin..

also would like opinions.. can I leave all of them be.. its a 300 gallon tank, 200w of lighting, 2 fluval 404's and on fluval fx5. theres 2 so far unidendefied syno, catfish (spotted?) a large albino pleco, and a grumpy 14" black shark in the tank.

If this is a mix that 'should' work, I would be happy to just give them food and regular water changes... and finally have some action in this tank..

there is also about 80 lbs of rock still on order that will be more caves etc. and a serious scrubbing of the walls of that tank due tommorow..

first pic are both yellow labs. (Labidochromis caeruleus)

2nd pic, the top blue one is a kenyi (Pseudotropheus lombardoi) and the bottom one is an auratus (Melanochromis auratus)

3rd pic is a yellow-tailed acei. (Pseudotropheus sp. "Acei" )

yellow labs are perfectly fine and so are the acei.

the auratus is one just about the meaning cichlid you can find. when it grows up you will have alot of trouble with it. the kenyi is right up there as well. altho they might not do to bad in a big tank like you have. that i'm not sure.

i have all of these fish together plus more in my 55 gallon. so far they are doing just fine, but then again they are only little (couple inches)

ID's above are spot on - just to add, both the Auratus and Lombardoi are females.

The Auratus is almost certainly going to be the dominant fish and could be a little terror, which is typical of the species. Other than that i don't see any problems. :good:

In case you didn't know it looks like the yellow lab on the right is a holding female!

Also, if these are all fish you like, I'd start beefing up their numbers, you have plenty of room to work with.

As I don't even have everything assembled for the tank (read that half the tank is barron for the most part) I'm in no hurry to get more fish. My intention is at this point to finish the rock wall, and let nature take its course to fill the tank.

Though the temptation to get a group of albino somethings, and maybe something agressive and red is pretty high as well.

On the lighter side, 3 hours of scrubbing later, I can actually see through the tank...
