Umm, it could be an African Butterfly Fish, but the red on the fins is throwing me off, it might also be a Viejita Dwarf Cichlid.

Edit- also could be a Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid but usually their tail fins (forgot what they are called) are more colorful.

Apistogramma cacatuoides, Dwarf Cockatoo Cichlid ?

Never in a month of blue sundays could that ever be an african butterfly fish. They're brown and maroon surface dwellers!

Hi there,

The fish is > Apistogramma cacatuoides and it's a female (nice yellow colour and black edges to the ventral fins are the distinctive markings for the sex of this fish).

With the tank bred strains of this fish, it's not uncommon for the females to show some of the colouring in the fins as well.

African Butterfly Cichlid (it looked like a South American Cichlid though), or something like that, it was in a book i checked out, it looked a lot like his fish.

Ok, heres a pic of the ABC (african butterfly cichlid), in the book i was reading the pic looked a lot like his fish, but this pic looks different:
