At first I thought whatever my fish had was ick, but after doing some research about it I can't help myself to think it is something else?

Here are some pics, sorry for the bad quality!

^^In this first picture you can see the ripped fins, reddening at the base of the fins and the weird white blotches really well.^^

Can someone please let me know what this is?

All the pictures of ick that I have seen where of tiny little white specs of sand scattered among the body, but what is on my fish is a lot bigger. The spots on my fish are not like little specs of white sand, but more like whites blotches.

Also, the fishes fins are all ripped and there is slight reddening at the base of the front two side fins.

I know I should of posted this in the fish emergency section, but this section gets more traffic. So feel free to move this thread if need be!

Thanks!

Do the White patches look like scales have come off? Or are the White patches on the surface of the skin/scales?

It could be body fungus, google it to see what you think

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Does the marks look like tipex you used to use for typing errors.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing, excess mucas, darting, erratic swimming, laboured breathing or gasping.

It sounds like columnaris and septicemia to me.

55 gallons

Six African Cichlids

All water stats are at 0 ppm, with a 7.6-7.8 pH.

Tipex? Kinda of looks like that. It just looks like his color/skin is coming off, but not his scales.

I saw him one time flicker once, but that is it.

He is still eating just fine and there does not seem like there is a lack of life in him at all. He seems just fine other than his appearance.

If it is what you say it is Wilder, how fatal/life threatening can it be for him?

Thanks for your responses!

I would get treating with maracyn plus.
It could be columnaris and septicemia.

Thanks for all the responses!

It seems that the ick medicine I was dosing has done a good job, there is barely any sign of the disease left on him.

His fins are starting to grow back nicely and he has just one little white spot left on him that is gradually going away!\

Lets hope he makes a full recovery!

Thanks again!
