hi all,
my tank was fishless cycled - all went great in 13 days fish added monday - see signature - went excellently!
h20 stats ammonia 0.0, nitrite 0.0, nitrate 25, ph 8.0.
yesterday 1 platy had 1 white spot and two tetras had 3 each - googled ick and it matched the pics. spots there this am, went to lfs bought malachite green - reccommended. got home - NO spots!

is this ick or not and do i treat or not - no fishy deaths, all eating tank temp 26 degrees.

please help only been keeping fish two months and was planning more to get 4 more tetras monday as the 3 i have are shy and i know they like to be together.. :S

p.s. they are not flashing either

That weird.
Wouldnt add the med just yet then, keep an eye on the gills and flicking and rubbing.
Whitespot looks like grains of salt on the fish.

it could just be lumps of crud on the fish, sch as sand ect...

as wilder said the best symptom to look out for is flicking and rubbing. thats the main symptom

thankyou both, noticed 1 danio has a spot now but still no flicking, all eating and appear to be acting normally - danios chasing etc

am a little worried thou as on night duty tommorow and will be away for 24hours, tank in my husbands care - and although he is fantastic he will not really notice flicking/rubbing or more white spots.

so water change today? - (in case 2nd stage ick) and leave untreated or?...

no sand only gravel

If you can see a grain of salt on a fish i would treat the tank.

Turn temp up to 30, don't forget to remove black carbon from the filter if you use it.
Read instructions well to see if you can add full dose of the med as neon tetra's and scaless fish can be funny with parasite meds.
Increase aeration in the tank as the high temp and med reduce 02 in the water.

hi again,

been treating with malachite green 1 drop per gallon , (carbon filter pad removed and temp up to 30 degrees) every 48 hours as reccommended on the bottle and 1 or 2 spots have become many! on fins and body of all fish now.

however all fish look to be well, swimming normally, no flicking/rubbing but i am worried. tried to get pictures but only cameras i have is on my phone and the fish all swim too fast!

anything else i could do?

Do you have an air pump running? As said by Wilder the high temp. and using medication will reduce the oxygen levels in the tank.

I had white spot in my first ever tank (Im still scared to ever get clown loaches again) However you have found it fast so you should be ok.
Salt treatment might also work not sure though with neons never had them before

yes i have moved the filter so it disturbes the water surface and i have an air stone in there

Not much else you can do really, just a waiting game till the spots have gone, then it best to keep treatment going for an extra week to make sure its completely gone.

Remember to treat after spots have visibly gone as they fall off the fish into the water, if you don't treat for long enough they will re-attach as per their life cycle.
