Ick Medicine

I have a couple of questions about ick medicines. Can you use ick medicine containing malachite green will all fish? I have Silver dollar fish plus a plecostomus. And if the parasite is in all tanks, why do you not treat your tank regularly to keep the parasite numbers down before your fish get ick?

The problem with treating a tank reguraly is that the Ich will become immune to the medicine, thus reducing the effectivness of the treatment. Best just to treat the tank if/when it appears on the fish.

With regards to Malachite Green, you should be careful with scaleless fish and the leaflets that come with the medicine normally advise to dose with a half dose at first and monitor the fish.
