Just got home from work, and went to feed the fish, and found that one of my silver Mollies had white spots on her. (what I believe is "Ick"

I took her out, and put her in my hospital tank, bumped up the temperature, and added aquarium salt.

I just found that some of my Ghost Shrimp, have it too...Should I take them out as well, and will they die, if i add them in the same tank as the Molly?

I REALLY dont want it to spread to the rest of my fish!!!

yeah, getting them away from the others is the biggest step. if your hospital tnak has plants and hiding places the fish should not bother the ghost shrimp at all. it may catch a small one, but with hiding places the chances are slim. i'm not sure how you would treat a shrimp, if they are closely related to parasites, like snails, then they may die from treatments. but i don't know much about shrimp really. the best thing for your fish is melafix. it always works, it saved a fish once, it was a black moore.

anyway, like i said, i'm not sure if it will hurt the shrimp or not. most likely, if you just add a little bit with them, just a little bit for a few days, then that may help without hurting the shrimp. but ni'd wait until a shrimp person replies.

good luck!!! :D

Thanks for the reply...

the shrimp are actually "Feeders" but I thought they looked cool, so I lept them, (in my 55, with the other fish)

I also jsut read theat Ghost Shrimp, can NOT get ICK, BUT...I can take pictures if you want, and i'm SURE its ICK...

I guess i'll have to run up to the store and get some meds...

I'm not going to let the shrimp get in the way of helping my Molly, I really have no attachment to them, other then they look cool in my tank...that is all..If i ahve to, ill feed them to my turtle...::snacks::

Are you in UK? I found Interpet's 'anti white spot plus' worked really well for my mollies. Hope she gets well soon! x

No, I'm in the US.

The main tank doesnt look like it broke out as of yet, but my fingers are still crossed...

But she seems to be fine...

I'll let ya all know how she makes out.

Just added the Ick Stuff...

It's called:

Ick Away by Wardley.

I added it to my hospital tank, and she still seems to be fine, so how long should I keep her in it?

thanks a bunch

until there are no more signs of it, keep an eye on her poop as well, if its white and stringy she may hav an internal parasite which is more serious.

If I am reading correctly, she developed ich in your main tank. That means your main tank has ich too, which means it should be treated as well. Ich can only be killed in it's free floating stage, not when it's a parasite on the fish. You need to continue treating a while after the spots disappear, so you can kill it. Raising the temperature speeds up the life cycle of the ichthyophthirius.

Another thing...are you keeping your Molly/Mollies in salt? If not, she/they may be stressed, and therefore more susceptible to disease, which is why she developed ich.

Good luck! :good:

All this Ick stuff is SO confusing to me..

OK, she DID get it in my Main tank, and I put her in a hospital tank and I'm treating it right now...

I've noticed that my Swords have a few spots on them as well..

So Should I add the Ick Soluion to the main tnak as well? But I have Loaces and things that cannot be in the tank while treating Ick.

Also, there is NO salt, in my main tnak, because of the other "tank mates" I Have

HELP!!!

I dont want my whole tnak to die..

And Is Ick treatable, once its noticable on the sides of fish!?!?
