Upon reading through one of my books (Aquarium Atlas by Dr. Rudiger Riehl and Hans A. Baensch), I found the only close explanation to the visual problems I see in my fish. A few months ago, one of my guppies started showing signs of this fungus with her scales protruding from her body. I have since lost that fish and two others. :S Now my dwarf gourami are showing that same symptom. The book tells me there is no known treatment, however, the book is fairly old. Their suggestion is to kill everything, disinfect the tank and start over. I have no way of performing an autopsy like the book instructs, so I am wondering if anyone else has had this same problem, and how they fixed it. Thanks to everyone.

The Ichthyosporidium fungi attacks the fish internally and can because of this be harder to treat than many other fungus diseases.
treatments include adding Chloromycetin or Phenoxethol to the food given the infected fish. Add about 1% of these substances to the food. 1% equals mixing one 250 mg pill with 25g food. The medicine can be mixed in most types of food. It is good to skip a feeding or two before starting to feed the medicated food to the fish to make sure that the sick fish eats the food. There is no guarantee that the treatment will work.
