my 2 fish just got ich. I have a molly and a platty and a 2 gallon tank. I turned up the temperature in the water and I got some rid ich. On the bottle it says it is reccomended to do a 25% water change before each medication. Will that mess up my cycle in the tank???

It also says to remove the carbon from the filter while medicating. What in the world does that mean?

You will have to remove 25% of the water as it says, leaving it in will mess with the water stats, black carbon is a black sponge that you get with filters for removing meds from the water.

No, you really need to do the waterchange. If you have carbon filter media (the black sponge or black granules in a bag) in your filter, you will need to remove this too. Throw the carbon away and replace after treatment (that's to say if you had the carbon in the first place). This link will give you some more information about ich.
This also gives some more information.

ok ill do the water change but Im freaking out now because I just looked into my tank and saw to baby fish swimming around. what the heck!!!! now my fish has ich and it just had babies too I guess. I have a small tank though. What should I do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry to much fry can be very hardy, have they plenty of hiding spaces in the tank, just medicate.

Ok. One more question...I want to put some salt in the tank to help out with the infection...I know mollys are ok with salt, but are platties ok with salt in the water?

Yes they are both fine with salt in the tank, good luck.

aw man this morning I came home and my molly was dead :( . she was the one who had babies and she had the most ich all over her. the plattie has like 1 ich spot. So I guess I sould keep on treating the tank? I hope it wasnt the medication that killed her. This sucks.

Or bless her, some livebearers can die a couple of days later after giving birth as it's happened with one of mine, and the whitespot on top probably didn't help, sorry don't blame yourself, sorry for your loss, R.I.P.

ok thanks, that makes me feel better. :/ do u think I should still treat the tank with the rid ich??

If they still have the whitespot than yes.
