Okay I have a 5 gallon with a platy and a betta in it. And the platy got ich. I seperated them, so now the 5 gal is empty. My betta is in one container, platy in the other. I'm treating the platy, but the betta doesn't have ich, so I'm not treating him. And now for the question: Should I treat the 5 gallon? I did about a 40% water change, and put a new filter in. Should I treat the tank? Or......what?
In the future I plan to get a 1.5 gallon with light, heater, and filter in it to put my platy in. Is that okay? Is it too small?
Water nitrite, nitrate, p.h, hardness, and alkeline are all acceptable levels.
So:
Ich, 5 gallon?
Platy, 1.5 gallon?
P.S
I know this is kind of in the wrong section, but I only got one reply in the emergency section. And betta people seem to respond much more, LoL.

why does a platy deserve any less room than a betta? so get a 5 g for the platy too. a platy can grow to 2 .5 inches and needs at least 2.5g but a 5 would be better. as for the ich, you need to remove all decorations and give the gravel/sand a good stir, and treat the tank too, it wouldn't harm keeping an eye on the betta for an hour a day just to see any behavioural signs of ich. high temps and 1 tsp of aquarium salt per gallon will help the platy recover too. the high temp ( i use 30 degrees centigrade) makes the ich cycle speed up so the treatment will hopefully be over quicker, make sure to remove all carbon from the filter too as they will remove the treatment from the water. so black filter sponge and all carbon sponges and cartriges should come out whilst treating. the decorations shouldn't be put back in the tank until after treatment has been cleared. allow decorations to air dry as the ich cannot survive off a host and out of water. hope that helps.

Put them back in the tank and treat the whole tank, some fish can carry the parasite without symptoms, and they can lurk in the substate of your tank too, you need to turn up the temp to 83 if the fish can stand it, and i think they can, increase aeration if you can or add an airstone, add aquatic salt as a supportive this helps the fish absorb oxygen from the water better, amongst other things and then add the medication.

I use protozin, do a water change first and then afterwards, increase the temp slowly and likewise after treatment reduce it slowly. any problems or questions give us a shout. di ps I dont have any bettas

Yes, definitely need to treat the tank. Ich lives in the gravel for part of its lifecycle. It looks like its gone, then reattacks the fish. This is why you need to follow the medication course through to the end.
