I popped into my local fish shop today, bought a couple of guppies and some neons, after settling them in and releasing them I left them to it for a few hours. It was only when I turned the lights back up that muggins here had a proper look at the fish. Two of the Neons have the dreaded tiny little white spots on their fins.
So as I understand it I have just involuntarily infected my entire tank, or at least will do when the spots turn into the free swimming stage, though in saying that there's probably free swimming nasties in some of the water from the travel bags that sloshed into the tank.
I just wanted to post so as to check I'm doing the right thing in treatment:
1. About to do 50% water change once water reaches room temp (so in the morning now).
2.Increasing temperature tonight (27 C to 29 C)
3. Buying medication tomorrow, (if someone can recommend something?)
4. Treat for 10 days. I.e. two life-cycles worth of nasties at 29C
5. Slowly turn temp back down to 27C
However I noticed in the FAQ thread on white-spot that one should be careful when treating 'scaleless' fish, now what about invertebrates? I have two Amano shrimp and am a bit concerned.
Anyway thank-you for reading, would appreciate any advice on the above treatment and reassurance would be nice too.
By the by, population of tank is Neon Tetras, Black/ Penguin Tetras, and Guppies, along with the fore-mentioned shrimp.
