Righty, just about to go to bed and i get a text from a friend asking me to come to his house ASAP as something really bad has happened to his tank. After 10 mins of walking in this time of night i found out he acceedently dumped a Whole bottle of fairy liquid in his 60L tank in which was cycling. He had no aquasafe left(how stupid) so could not put the fish in another tank. I had no choice but to take the 2 platys he had home and into my cycling tank until he sorts something out. I was certain the fish would die in his tank so had no option. Now my problem is that i think his fish may have ich/whitespot. I can see very small white dots around the tail fin and some on the body. Im really worried now as my tank is on day 3 with its fishless cycle and dont want my future fish to get ich. I think the itch is in its early stages therefore want to eradicate it compleatly. I will try to post some pics but i really need all the help i can get

Thanks

Sorry Halo can I just check - have you just put these fish into a tank which is sitting at 5ppm ammonia with no meaningful bio filtration going on? If so I assume that you have done a couple of 80-90% water changes to get shot of that ammonia so that you're in a fish in cycle?

Can you chuck your mate some Prime etc so that he can get his tank detergent free today and then get back into his cycle as soon as possible so that you can get back to yours? I think salt can be used on itch however I really wouldn't trust my suspision on this - PM eagle, WD, KK, Old Spouse etc to see what they say....

Regards

Miles
PS Well done on being a good samaraton to the fish! :)

I would have thought that just putting the fish in some clean tap water would be less harmful than putting them in a tank in a fishless cycle :/ A few people here don't bother dechlorinating their water anyway.

If it's ich then you need quite a long and substantial medication process I believe, hopefully someone else can tell you which meds are best.

Hiya ;) , Yep i did do a water change but it was a 50% change  . My mate came today to get the fish off me so all is ok. Tank is empty now but i think somethings wrong with the cycle = S
