Hey guys i 2 loach's with the ich... My temp is on 26, should i put it up or down to help out with the sickness while i treat with some medi.... :/

Usually turn it up to about 30, but you can't as you have a plec and they cannot tolerate high temp or salt,i would get a med straight away it is not a desease you can leave it can kill them in a short period.

salt + raising temperature (usually atleast 86) is what I use for ich nowadays as I found that medicine isn't very good to fish it self. So rather just temperature + salt altho some says that loaches aren't doing good with salt but I my self use salt to cure my loaches before. But since I dicide not to keep loaches any more due to the size they will be in the future.

make sure its ich and not velvet.
heat and added aeration normally works with gravel vacs but clown loaches are very difficult to treat.

Too late guys :-( They have both passed away... :byebye:
How do i make sure that the other fish don't have it??? They look good on the body...

keep the temp raised to see if any break out and keep doing gravel vacs for a few days.
sorry about your fish. :(

Sorry to here of your loss mate

I am not sure on how to make sure the other fish dont have it but maybe a larger than normal water change and mayber treat the tank for ICH untill the next water change. Someone correct me if i am wrong

i think i'll raise the temp from 26 to 28 slowly and maybe do a 30% water change in about 5-6 hours, i need to change my filter pads anyways... How does that sound?

sounds good to me but I wouldn't change all filter pads as the pads house the beneficial bacteria (think thats what it is called) on ,on both of my tanks my filter is made up of about 4 different pads i tend to change the fine filter pad once a week / maybe every two weeks but clean the others in tank water (mine is a jewel filter).

:rip: little clown :-(

to make sure ur others r ok. Be sure to make alot of patial water change like 25% every 3 days is what I do when ich occour. And raise temperature to 86 I dont even use salt and ich disappear.

Ich is a protozoa (similar in characteristic to a bacteria). It has to be introduced to the tank somehow. It shows up in fish when there immune system can't defend against an infection (like during times of stress). The life cycle of the ich protozoa is good to understand in order to treat it. Basically Ich has three stages, 1) it forms cysts in your fish (white spots on skin) 2) the cysts release offspring that fall to the gravel and lie dormant 3) the dormant offspring become active swim through the water looking for a host. The only time medication (or heat and salt) works in during the third part of the life cycle. This life cycle can take 1-2 weeks (it is temperature dependant). So if you had fish with ich there is a good chance that you still have ich protozoa in your tank and it wouldn't be a bad idea to treat your tank for a couple of weeks.

sorry about your fish :( I have recently suffered a loss from ich as well. it was a neon but i still miss him :-(
