ok so my fish got a case of ich about 5 days ago. So i went to the LFS and picked up this stuff called Rid+Ich. Set my temp in the tank to about 82 degrees F and began treatment. I followed the directions that were on the bottle, as well as adding salt to my tank. My tank is 20 gallons, the product calls for at least a 20% water change between daily treatments, so i changed 5 gallons a day to be safe. I also gravel vacced everyday. well needless to say here i am 5 days later and my fish seem to be cured. i'm goin to continue the treatment for another 4 days or so to be safe. I have 2 platys, 2 swordtails and two corys and none seemed to be stressed or hamred by the product. I would recomend anyone with ich to give it a shot, just be warned it has a strong organic dye that will turn ur silcon and other items in ur tank a blueish-green color. Hope this helps anyone looking for an ich treatment. :good:

p.s. - it says it works on other external parasites and fungus - dunno how succesful in those cases though
:fish:

Best to treat one more week once spots have gone.
How much salt have you added as corys don't tolerate it towell.

yea the spots have been gone for about a day or two so i figured another 4 days or so should be good. i've only been adding about i tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons of water. the corys dont seem to be bothered by it at all.
p.s. i just hate the fact that i'm gonna gonna have to do this every time after i add new fish since i dont have a quarentine tank :grr:

That's the full dose of salt one tablespoon to 5 gals.

You don't have to treat the tank for whitespot every time you buy new fish. Only when they break out in whitespot. You will be stressing the other fish to much by doing this.
It wise to have an issolation tank as new fish can fetch desease in.

yea, i'm thinkin about getting a small 2.5 gallon tank, just for that reason, and i figure when i don't have new fish in it i can use to keep fry in (if i get any).

Do you think i'm adding to much salt for the corys? like i said they dont seem stressed, but dunno if it will affect them negatively. i also know that livebearers like a little salt in their water, finding that happy medium might be a little tough.

Issolation tanks depends on the size of the fish you keep.

right now i have platys, swordtails and corys. dont plan on gettin anything too big

The tanks abit small buts it up to you.
A 5 to 6 gal would be better.

thanks for the tip, it's still gonna be a little while before i get one, since i just bought my 20 gal setup about a month ago. gotta save up some cash, and i'll prolly look into a cheep 5 gal setup. an issolation tank would be so much easier than having to worry about bringing sick fish home to get the rest of my tank sick.
