Ich issue

oh if its ich just raise temperture and dump in aquarium salt and ich will be gone. I my self now dont even use salt my cardinal tetra and neon tetra have ich like few days ago I raise the temperture to 87 or so and all the ich just gone in like few days. I dont like to use medicine unless its a must. Ich parasite cant take that kind of temperture and it also speed up the cycle of the parasite. But just check the species of ur fish before raising temperature to 86+ some fish might not be able to take that kind of heat. Good luck

I think your right on this, for the last week after losing the cherry barbs, i still had 1 cherry barb and 1 neon that had ich, the neon had just a small bit but the cherry barb was severely infected, ive been medicationg the main tank with rid ich for a week now with no changes in the two infected fish. i thought i was going to lose the barb today, yesterday i picked up a small 5 gallon eclipse aquarium with all the goodies built in to use as a quarentine tank, the difference between the show tank and this one is the lack of current. having two pengein 300 biowheels in a 20 gallon puts out a bit of current. today the cherry barb was moving only a little bit hiding inside a decoration which shields the current. After putting the two infected fish inside the 5 gallon, hes already starting to show a lot more life and is starting to swim around a lot more, I think that by putting him there he'll have a chance to relax and recouperate. this will also put less strain on the main tank with less meds and the ability to use charchol again.

FYI
Current water conditions are as follows
PH 6.8
ammonia 0.25
nitrite 0
nitrate 20-40
temperature 82 degrees
mind you this is after a 25% water change and without having charcle in the system for a week.

i will be doing another 25% water change on wednesday.

I think the whole thing was a matter of stress from 1 or two sick fish, not a water quality problem.

thank you all for your promt help though

While it is possible that a sick fish brought in the ich, I think it is much more likely that your water led to the breakout. Ich parasites are living in all of our tanks, but our fish's immune systems are strong enough to fight off the little buggs. When a fish gets stressed, usually from ammonia or nitrite in the tnak, illnesses are likely to break out. I can honestly see a difference in how my fish act when there is ammonia or nitrite in my tank. I'm dead serious. Make sure to keep a close eye on your water, especially the ammonia and nitrite. If they get any worse, you should do a partial water change and add back the meds you took out.

the last cherry barb died tonight, I will be monitoring all the rest of the fish, but everything is looking good for them.

the sick neon is starting to get his color back and is eating plenty

I guess well see in the morning

I will continue medicating the tank with amqual+ novaqual and stress coat in both tanks and salt (as needed)

I was talking to someone at a pet smart and she mentioned she always keeps her (personal) tanks at about 80 degrees to help prevent Ich infections, does this sound right?
