so..noticed white spots on a couple of my girls. bought API super ick cure.
the instructions says to remove carbon.
then put 1 packet per 10 gallons. this is a 10 gallon tank, with 4 girls btw.-
anyhow-
so i did that
then it says wait 48 hrs and repeat. then it says after 48 hrs remove 25% of the water
and put new carbon. i guess to remove the medication?
today is the 24 hrs after the 2nd packet. which means tomorrow i should do the remove 25% and add new carbon
but here is my issue. 2 of the girls had ich, the other 2 had no spots on them. but i figured it is in the tank already
need to treat the whole tank. from what i read ich can just hang around in the water?
today i see that one of the 2 girls who did not have ich, now has it on her. shes got like 5 spots,
while the other girls who DID have it, now do not. and the other girl who did not, still does not.

and so here is my question, tomorrow is supposed to be the last day of having the meds in the water.
should i dose it again? with another packet and another 48 hrs? since that one girl has it on her body now?
orrr....just follow the instructions and do the 25% water change and put in carbon again.
help!!

How do you know its ich? it could of been white spot. If it is ich, its likely the meds have got the ich of your other fish and the ich has jumped onto your other fish that didnt have it. After the last does tomorrow i'd leave it a few days then start the treatment again thats if your sure its ich, because it might be a bit much for the girls all that med. Try blacking out the tank with a cover, should decrease stress and hopefully help with the white spots.

Have you added aquarium salt? My betta began flicking (not sure if he had ich) and became sick rather fast. . .so in desperation, in addition to Quick Cure, I added Aquarium salt, and as Jasmine recommended blacked out the tank. My fish is in a 2-gallon bowl, so I did 100% water changes daily with adding new salt and Quick Cure each day. He's fine now :)

Best of luck.

My boy had white spot and i added salt and the white spot treatment, it cleared up pretty fast but the blacking out the tank made it even faster! =] Always read the labels on stuff thoughm make sure you dont add too much salt!

my friend at the store recommended to get aquarium salt too. so i did add some salt as well.
we were thinking maybe to do a big water change, like 75% or so, and then add salt then if the white spots dont go away,
do the treatment again.
how about that? or just salt only and no medS?

I just got rid of ick in both of my tanks. I have just switched over to chichlids and didn't look them over as good as I should have so both tanks were infected.
I picked up some Ick Gaurd,Aquarium salt, then did a 50% water change in both, added more and treated with stess coat, chlorine reducer, then the ick gaurd and salt. Only 1/4 of the salt recommended as the fish don't like that much all at once. I was told that at a big pet shop years ago. Keep treating for 3 days after spots are gone and do another water change and then keep an eye on them to be sure it does't show up again.
That's what I did and so far they've been good as new for a week now.
I didn't tell you, but berore I got started on the treatment 14 fish died, so stay on top of it.
Hope this helps.

oop's...I also turned the temp. up to 82 and kept the lights off.

oh dear...be advised folks that Ich and Whitespot are the SAME parasite.
just called by 2 names.
to the OP-
dont change the carbon or add carbon between medication redosing. only run it at the END. and continue to treat the fish for a week after the spots have gone. aquarium salt, raising temp to 86 (if youre able) and keeping tank lights off is a good idea coupled with the meds.
cheers

well...oops then. i put the carbon back in, figured id wait a couple days, do the salt, and up the temp, and leave lights off
for liek a week or so, then try it again?
omg plz tell me exactly what to do i feel like such a noob LOL
shoul di take the carbon out and treat the tank again now?

so is that a 48 hour treatment? from your original post, which i went back and read, it seems so. you need to treat for a week after all spots are gone. remove carbon, up temp, increase aearation if possible. only run carbon when treatment is over and you want to get rid of the med.
does that help?? also with some ich, you need to whole rounds of med (that means if the ich is still there, you need to keep treating a second dose and treat for a week after spots disappear-or it may come back)
cheers

alright so gotta do it all over again then.
but from what i have read, just cus it is off of their bodies, does not mean it is gone, cus the ich still wanders around the tank, correct?
so the treatment that i got, it takes about 4 days to do the treatment according to the package,
so maybe i should do this twice. ?

oh! ive also got this real strange issue with one of my girls,
maybe you can help me figure out whats going on.
i had one girl who ended up gettin dropsy, and had died by the time i went to the store to buy her medication.
a couple weeks went by and i bought another girl, (from the same place cus i am stupid)
and she has been lookin real bloated...so i was like uh oh...got another sick one.
but i realized quickly, so i put her in a separate container, with some salt, and put the container in the tank with the other girls
so that she can still get the heat from the tank.
the next morning
she looked normal. no more bloated. there was a lot of poopie on the bottom of the container, and...the water was a very yellow, almost human urine color.
i figured maybe she was just constipated and whatever it was, is gone now,
so i put her back in the tank.
other girls are 100% normal from what i can tell by the way.
then a day or 2 passes, and i notice this girl is a balloon again. repeat the same thing i did. and again about a day and some later
she is back to her svelte self, and the water is yellow, with lots of poopie. so far ive done this 3 times.. is it just that she gets crazy constipated?
or is this something else that i am just not aware of?
the other girls have never had this issue, and i have also done a few water changes since i had that sick girl before.
also have done a water change since i have gotten this girl. i have only had her about a week
and this started happening the 2nd day she was here.
what do you think? help?
ill try to get a pic of her when she is all bloaty, and another when she is normal so yall can compare, also maybe a picture of the water from the container

---you are correct that the parasite falls off the fish and is still haning around in the tank. if youve gotten rid of the spots, keep treating for a WEEK after tehy disappear (this means 2 more 4-day treatments...then run some carbon for a day and do a big waterchange. things should be all cleared up then)

---if you got her and she was swollen, then pooped a LOT(from the sounds of it she did) she was probably constipated and being fed crappy food(no pun intended)..she did a big poo and it sat in the tank "decaying" which is why the color of the water changed (her food may also have contained various artificial pigments which stained the water)...she ate some more, got big again(maybe she wasnt all cleaned out) and the same thing happened. id say no problem with her, but keep a look out for long, stringy white/mucousy poop, as THAT is cause for concern. could mean internal parasties to an internal bacterial infection. if that is the case treatment is easy with meds. so long as swimming and eating ok, i owuldnt worry too much.
cheers

i have not seen any white or stringy poopies in the container ive been puttin her in .
should i just leave her be? or keep putting her in the separate container with aquarium salt every time i see she is gettin big?
since that seems to help?

do you feed your tank peas regularly? most bettas love peas as a suppliment 1-2x per week...may help that girie with her fatness...although bloating can be a sign of internal parasites as can stringy white poo...is her anus inflamed? might need to deworm?peas help to clean them out if it is just constipation...if the spots have only been gone 3-4 days, id treat again just to be sure its gone.
cheers

i do peas once a week,
ill have to keep a closer eye on her to see if her poopies are white/stringy
