HI! New here! I'm just wondering if anyone knows this one....My platy fish and algae eater are showing signs of ich.( White specks here and there on their bodies.) I have two platies that are having babies (I just found six of them in the bottom of my tank and have six more from a few days ago (two fish having them I think) I took out the babies to keep them safe but do I have to worry about them getting ich? Also will the mom fish be ok if I treat all of the fish in the tank? Thank you!

Can you issolate the young as fry, as they are sensitive to meds and you will need to dose less then half dose.

I would just get the fry out of the tank and into an isolation unit until they are big enough to be released. How long had they been in there when you first noticed ich?

Thank you for your replies. I noticed the ick the day after I took the second batch of babies out of the tank and put them into the nursery tank (I like calling it that! Such cute little babies  ) I talked to the fish people here at The World of Fish in my town and they gave me NOX-ICH. The older platies are in a 10 gallon tank and the fish guy told me to put 8 drops in (since the algae eater is the one that seems to be the most effected) I haven't seen any more babies in the tank since I took out the six I found in it before.
Do you know...do the babies come into their color as they get older or should you be able to see some sort of hint of what color they will be? I ask because I have just one that has a distinctive orange color (sticks out like a sore thumb! :good: !) The others are a grey sort of color. The mothers were a blue platy and an orange platy. The orange platy aborted about six fry the day after I put her into the plastic tank you put them in that separates the babies from the mom. I thought that was strange! They were mostly developed, just not quite ready to be born. THen a day or two later (after I let her out of the tank I found the other babies in the tank) I feel bad for her because she has a red platy that chases her all over the tank (like he wants to be by her all the time) he doesn't hurt her, he just chases her. When she stops, he does too. Kind of funny but I don't know what it means....
I don't see any signs of ick on the babies at this point. Ich would be so big on them I should be able to tell if they are giong to get it by now shouldn't I? Alos, I noticed last night that all of my fish are just sitting at the bottom of the tank. Am I going to lose them? They come up for food and swim around for a while then go back to the bottom and sit. (Unless I am watching them, in that case they like to all swim by my fase (I think they are mocking me! ) Thank you for reading my rambling! I am both excited about babies and worried about the parents at the same time. I have had really bad luck keeping fish in my aquarium. I seem to kill everything I get, then feel really bad that I couldn't save them. I don't know what I am doing wrong....I hope here I can find some help keeping them safe! Thank you again for all your help!!
