I noticed a single white spot on about 3-4 rummy nosed tetra a about 3 days ago and then started treating the tank with a malchite green formula using half the recommended dose as I have a bristlenosed pleco in the tank, I have raised the temperature and added another dose yesterday (it says once every 2 days) since I started treating it it's still gotten gradually worse. I've done a 75% water change before I added the meds and today theres about 2-3 fish with 4 spots on. All have been rummy nosed tetra for some reason none have been anything else in the tank?

I'm also going away until sunday this afternoon!!
What should I do?! I really don't want them all to die when I get back!

I've just done a 50% water change, I've got to go until sunday in a couple of hours so I hope someone replys!
I think the problem has been that I've had the light on most of the time after I'd treated the tank, should I add another half-dose (have a pleco who's sensitive) or even another half of that? Or should I add salt? (only have table available)

Do you think they will still be treatable on sunday if things don't start to get better?

Sorry to hear about your ich problems. I think it happens to nearly everyone at least once. Don't add any table salt, which could potentially do more harm than good. From your description it sounds like you added the meds, then did a 70% water change, then did a 50% water change, which would leave very little medication in the tank. I would do a half dose before you leave. Will you be having someone in to feed them while you're gone? If so, I'd ask them to give another dose on Saturday. But if not I think they'll be all right for another day.

Good luck, and let us know what happens.

I did a 75% change THEN dosed, then waited till day 3 and added another half dose then today on day 4 i did a 50% change. I'll ask someone to med the tank when I'm gone on saturday. Should I add another half dose then?

also the temp is ~84f I think I'm going to raise it to about 86-87 do you think they'll be okay at that temp until sunday? Current stocklist is: rummy nosed tetra, apistogramma cacatuoides, 1 honey gourami, 1 bolivian ram, 1 BN pleco and 2 red chinned panchax.

140L, cycled. Added 5 extra rummys this week to make 10 as I had 5, (bought 6 but only 5 were in the bag when I got home :( ) so I'm guessing the rummys were the cause.

I think you're right. Always a good idea to quarantine new fish, but too late now. Poor fish go through so much stress! I think if you have another dose put in Saturday you should be fine. Whatever the directions say, cut in half because of the pleco, and hopefully things will be fine in a couple weeks.

Rang home earlier and they said it's still about the same amount of spots and still only on the tetras. I bought the meds about 6months ago in my last outbreak in a differant tank, so now I'm wondering if they have some sort of expiry date or something.

What do you think I should do now? Switch meds? Raise the temp and add salt?

Okay so I just got home.
The treatment still isn't really working, I came home to find a dead red chinned panchax even though he had no white spots and there wouldn't have been an ammonia/nitrite spike as I've scarcly fed them since it's been like this and I'm not even sure it's the temp as the thermometer says its only 26oc.
It's easter sunday so all the shops are closed but I think I'll go get some differant meds tomorrow and buy some aquarium salt.
It's still also only on the rummys!!

What's the name of the med being used, and who is it made by?

It's called "whitespot treatment" by pets at home, got it when I first started about last august.
